Cristiano Ronaldo's departure from Manchester United has seen him replace Lionel Messi as the world's highest paid footballer, according to recent figures released by Forbes.
Ronaldo is expected to earn $ 125 million before taxes for the 2021-22 season, and $ 70 million comes from salaries and bonuses on his return to United.
The 36-year-old is expected to earn around $ 55m (£ 40.31m) in sales, with only three other commercial players: Roger Federer ($ 90 million), LeBron James ($ 65 million) and Tiger Woods ($ 60) million).
His longest and biggest rival, Lionel Messi will earn $ 110m (£ 80.63m) this season, with $ 75m (£ 50m) of that amount from his salary and bonuses at Parc des Princes, according to Forbes. The former Barcelona star will pay his PSG salary in an estimated $ 35 million.
PSG are now suing three of the world's five highest paid players, including 29-year-old Neymar, who lives at No. 3 and for $ 95 million, and Kylian Mbappe, 22, at No. 4 $ 43 million.
From Cristiano Ronaldo, the world’s most popular athlete, down to Eden Hazard, Belgium's talisman, these are the world's highest-paid soccer players in 2021.
